So our school, which shall remain nameless, has a dress code. While I am the first one to be a stickler about what my daughter wears, I am typically in full support of dress codes and even uniforms. I mean, can you blame me? Have you seen the crap they are trying to sell to 11 year old girls?? Our dress code isn't your typical dress code. Girls are required to wear dresses or skirts every day. While I don't mind dresses, it makes it a bit difficult to play at recess. Have you ever tried to swing on a swing or go down a slide in a skirt? You would think THAT would be worse than a girl wearing pants. You might be asking me, "Then why are your kids going to that school?" Well I'll tell you. Its the lesser of many evils. The schools around her stink. I don't mean the kind of stink where its just a difference of opinion, but they are the worst in the State. So having said that, its better than most. Now back to the dress code. I've tried being a very supportive parent, compliant to their rules etc. Our daughter has Aspergers and last year, her first year, a girl took it upon herself, well several girls to be exact, to make C's life absolutely miserable. Accusing her of some pretty hideous things, which all have been recanted this year. However, C has already been labeled. Labeled by teachers and staff. There's nothing I can do to go back and help her to recover her character. And that has rolled over into the secretary being probably the most annoying human being that could possibly walk. She has decided that she doesn't particularly like C or Me. I don't care, however, she has taken it upon herself to call me weekly about C's clothing. C has very cute modest clothing and very long legs. She grew about 7 inches this past year. YEA I KNOW! My clothing bill is killing me. Most of her skirts and dresses hit her knees, sometimes about 1/18 of an inch above the knee but its there. C's not the most proper girl, so bending over she just does it, she doesn't squat in a dress, maybe something I should teach her. I've had to teach her so many things that that just kinda slipped through the cracks. With all of her sensory issues and the dress code what it is, it makes it very difficult to find things that work. The other problem, they aren't enforcing the dress code fairly across the board for all kids. I've been watching the other kids at school just to see and there are kids who are wearing flip flops, jean skirts with slits up the back (they are to the knees, minus the slit, but you'd think the slit would make it a no no). And many girls wearing skirts to short. Most of the girls are fairly short so I'm not sure if thats what gives C away, her height? I dunno. But if I get a call today, Mrs J is going to get an ear full.
P.S. Next year the girls are allowed to wear pants all year round. Wooop De Dooooo. We are leaving to head back to California. THANK GOD.
